Description
Aptly named ‘Mother Block’ these wines come from our site at Chalmers Merbein Vineyard, the heart of all that we do. As well as it being the location of our family home and business, this unique and diverse vineyard is the adopted home to each variety that we’ve imported to Australia over the last 20 years. It is also the source block for supplying millions of vines planted across Australia through our vine nursery, hence the name.
Mother Block Skin Contact is a white wine made like a red wine, based on Italian varieties Vermentino, Fiano with touches of Ansonica, Pecorino and Moscato Giallo. The grapes are destemmed and co-fermented on wild yeasts at cool temperatures with full solids and skins. Pressed and aged in tank on fine lees for 6 months.
Fresh pineapple, feijoa, and guava, with lashings of lemon and lime, Vietnamese mint, coconut water and wet river stone notes. Bitter Lemon, almond, hazelnut and pistachio, loads of pulpy cantaloupe, custard apple, chalky texture, and a grippy herbal lift.
