Description
At Chalmers we love a project, we are also loving the potential of Falanghina, a variety that we imported fairly recently. With only four vintages under our belt in the Chalmers range, a wine that is aromatic, fresh and scintillating, the scope for this variety performing beautifully in warm to hot conditions, also lends itself to different winemaking techniques. In 2023 we took a parcel of fruit from our certified sustainable Merbein Vineyard, pressed then popped into old French barrels to ferment naturally and age for 10 months. What resulted was a very different yet wonderful expression of Falanghina. With a nose of yellow orchid fruits, lemon curd, vanilla spice and flint, the pallet is generous and little more serious, almost giving it a Chardonnay-esq feel but with a racy line and mineral backbone. It’s a wine that deserves a little more attention than the usual delicious quaffer, although utterly drinkable as is, it can sit very comfortably alongside a classic roast chicken or a porcini risotto.
