Description
Vermentino has been part of the Chalmers wine range for 20 vintages now so it was an obvious choice as our first attempt at making a Zero Alcohol wine. It was important to us to make a purpose made wine with the vision that it was going through a de-alcoholisation process and not just any zero alcohol wine that has had flavours added back in.
With this in mind we used our premium Estate Heathcote Vermentino grapes of which we used the pressings giving it more body and phenolic texture. Wild fermented in stainless steel tank, as per the regular Vermentino, resulting in a pure clean and fresh expression. A key part of making with wine was stopping it before going completely dry and leaving the natural sugars that retained plenty of Vermentino flavour in the end product.
The 2024 Chalmers Vermentino Zero is pristine and lifted, with pine nuts, lemon balm, white florals, chalk and a fresh water-like finish. Less than 0.5% alcohol, serve this chilled and enjoy with scallop sashimi or a chilled cucumber soup on a hot summers day.
